Before & After
Transformation arc that shows contrast between a problem state and a resolved state.

Bold Claim
Asserts something surprising, counter-intuitive, or that challenges a widely held belief. Works because it creates mild cognitive dissonance — the viewer stays to see if you can back it up. Specificity is critical here too: the more concrete the claim, the more credible it feels before you've proven anything.

Curiosity Gap
Opens with a question the viewer needs answered. The key mechanic is specificity — the more precise the gap, the more irresistible it feels. Vague curiosity ("something interesting happened") doesn't stop thumbs; specific curiosity ("what happened after week 3") does. The gap must be closeable within the video or you lose trust.

Day in the Life
Behind-the-scenes or routine content that builds parasocial connection and shows the product in context.

Direct Address
Calls out a specific person by identity, situation, or problem. The narrower the call-out, the stronger the effect — counterintuitively, "if you're a freelance copywriter who charges by the word" outperforms "if you're a freelancer" because the right person feels like you're speaking only to them. Everyone else scrolls, which is fine — they weren't your viewer anyway.

Hook + Value Bomb
Opens with a bold, attention-grabbing claim immediately followed by rapid, dense value delivery.

Relatable Pain
Names a frustration, feeling, or situation the viewer is already experiencing. The hook works by making the viewer feel seen — which creates an immediate emotional connection before you've offered anything. The best versions voice the viewer's exact inner monologue, not a sanitized description of the problem. Don't solve it in the hook; just surface it.

Social Proof
Testimonial or reaction-driven content that builds trust through others' results.
1 129,130 1,667 8
Social Proof/Stakes
Frames the hook around scale, authority, or what's at risk. Works by activating two of Cialdini's core influence principles simultaneously — social proof ("others validated this") and authority ("credible sources weigh in"). Numbers are load-bearing in this hook type; remove them and the hook usually collapses. Best used when you're debunking, correcting, or contextualizing something widely believed.
